My school and (probably) most local schools don't allow them, because Singaporean schools and the people in charge of education here are insecure a-holes.

Government bastards. (not directed at anyone)

Kevin - January 11, 2005 10:55 AM (GMT)
My school allows it, that's for sure. During the breaks, students are playing poker, blackjack, and strip-twister (just kidding!) in the cafeteria. Burr.

And yeah, they freak out when I show them stuff with their cards. How fun :D

Well, i believe all Schools in Singapore except for American based school doesn't allow gambling or cards playing. But who cares, i would take out my deck and give it a few spring just to make myself pleased :X

Daryl - January 11, 2005 12:53 PM (GMT)
i bring mine in the ARMY man. how cool is that?

im sure sammyp10 has a story to tell here :D

Mabas - January 11, 2005 12:53 PM (GMT)
Well if need be just bring a blank deck and perform it. When the teachers want to confiscate it, show a blank deck. I'm sure they would be mum.

tham - January 11, 2005 12:57 PM (GMT)
haha.. there was this time when gordie was showing a bunch of us some effects when the school security guard came into class and grabbed the deck from him.
of course he went on and on about telling our headmaster we were gambling and stuff.

then we all tried explaining to him that we were just watching magic, when that security guard started doing some effects with key card principle.

so gordie pulled out another deck and showed him some colour changes.

that was enuff to scare him away.. :D

yeah my school bans playing cards, even though many many people have sent in proposals about cards being used in certain areas only and stuff. but being the uptight, conservative idiots they are completely ignored us. so much for student welfare. [wait a sec. then again, no one has even detained gordie for bringing cards in.]

Magicdow - January 11, 2005 01:09 PM (GMT)
You can't blame them for banning playing cards in shcool. Most people use cards for gambling not magic.

Winder - January 11, 2005 01:14 PM (GMT)
I agree, my classmate always "got cards ah, play daidee/blackjack", then normally i would say get your own deck if you wanna play. This deck isn't for gambling purposes.

GordonLi - January 11, 2005 01:56 PM (GMT)
heck, i just bring em anyway. wont get in much trouble even if u do...

[Ling] - January 11, 2005 01:57 PM (GMT)
Ha. Mine doesn't allow, but it was like an invisible rule. But, i'll still bring them, who cares?! Now that i have grown smarter, I'll divert their attention away from the cards, if they wanted to play some idiotic games...

iewgnod - January 11, 2005 03:20 PM (GMT)

I sure hope this is a general statement, CLJ. Many of my friends and relatives are teachers, so naturally I would take offence to this kind of remark.

Especially if I was a trainee teacher.

:)

But Farid, you must remember... many of Chris's friends are students and teenagers, so he must be under the influence or something like that.

Anyhow, if all else fails, just bring a stack of floppy disks, and do doubles and passes with those. Fun.

haha...when got free periods the teachers dont care. this week every break got a group of guys sit at one table and exchange tricks... cool stuff. the teachers walk pass but they dont care. my friend even talked about starting a magic club. but only can get in after a test... if the principal approves... aniwae... MJC now has 6 magis (real ones... not those who are in it just to learn the secrets)... yay...

[Ling] - January 12, 2005 08:39 AM (GMT)
Cool!
Many of the 'magis' in my school has quitted or lost interest. Bleah... Now left only 3 real ones.

Anyway, I do some mild flourishes under my desk during lessons, and I sit at the side, so the teachers can't see what I'm doing. Hehe. And my friend (one of the real magis) would come to me during change of period, to ask me for tips etc. But overall, the magic scene in NCHS is as stale as ever....

Are those 6 the ones who quitted magic and came back ?

Mystical2004 - January 12, 2005 12:03 PM (GMT)
2 of them. 2 quitted and now come back. the rest has always been in magic and never quitted.

magi81 - January 12, 2005 12:20 PM (GMT)
I agree to a certain extend that cards should be ban in school.
Why?
cuz like magicdow mentioned, MOST people use cards for gambling..

yes, u can prove u r a magician, but that does not prove u r not a gambler magician.
does that means if some1 learn magic using cards, then he's deem not a gambler?
no i believe, if i'm a teacher, i would still confiscate that card, and return it only to him/her when he/she knows bringing cards to school is bad.

if the teacher allowed it once, i'm sure the sch will be populated with "magicians", espically card magician.

can u keep a rifle in my hse and say i keep it for practising of road march purpose?

iewgnod - January 12, 2005 01:59 PM (GMT)
wow
quite true magi
i take out all the cards in my wallet and do flourishes with tem B)

Daren - January 18, 2005 08:38 AM (GMT)

Desmond - January 18, 2005 10:59 AM (GMT)

Justy - January 18, 2005 11:43 AM (GMT)
i guess i can=) i flourish during lesson, i walk around carrying my cards in school.. haha.. the teachers don't really bother me=)

Brendan - January 18, 2005 11:49 AM (GMT)
hmm... i wonder if i can bring my cards to work.... in the office... flourishing...
ill probably get a warning coz people willl just look... and stare... distraction...
but i always think abt my cards at work...... hmm... i miss them when im at work.

tham - January 18, 2005 12:50 PM (GMT)
carrying cards around is ok.. taking them out and using them probably discouraged. but i suppose practicing privately [say, during lunch time/period] is better than simply not doing any cardwork till getitng home.

Justy: wow, you actually flourish in front of your teachers?

Justy - January 18, 2005 02:49 PM (GMT)
yep.. i just practice.. haha.. flourisher-in-training=)

<<Magic>> - January 21, 2005 09:40 AM (GMT)
i bring them everydae although they dont allow...but who cares...

[Ling] - January 21, 2005 02:11 PM (GMT)
Haha, i was thinking of some new flourishes with my black tiger and my maths relief teacher walked past me, and guess what, she said '' Wah! 这个很美 leh! 那里买的?'' Haha, then i went on to show her some stuff. It's a rare breed of teachers who allows this.
