Title: How To Reject

BangHao - August 2, 2008 01:04 AM (GMT)
There is a course event for me yesterday so during my free time, I perform for one group of people and everything went well for me. The new spread quickly that I have perform magic for this group of people and the rest came and ask me to perform for them. Sometimes i reject because the environment is no favorable and sometimes it is because I want to stop performing for the Day.

I would like to ask everyone how would you reject politely when people ask? It can be because you do no have prop with you or you do not feel like performing or the environment is not right.

You're tired =P. Do a coin roll and fail. Most people do not want to see your trick unless its a good one.

Or You're busy.

Or, like Harry Potter, you sometimes want to just be yourself and not give a damn about magic.

Cheers.

Prepare a name card. Say something like "Hey guys, thanks so much for the time, but I'm sorry that's all for today. So, here's my card, do call me next time for your events, and I promise you more magic, just for you! Cheers!"

If it's in your character, you can try this (which I always do and my guess is some of you do too..):

You: "Ok, 1 final one. Very powerful trick... Think of a number between 1 to 99."

Spec: "Got it..."

You: "Ok, what's the number?"

Spec: "Tell you now?"

YOu: "Yes... "

Spec: "37..."

YOu (looking right in their eyes, with a la Derren Brown expression of mystique and after a long pause): "Exactly..."

Spec:  ...

After the crows had flew past and their 3 strands of sweat wiped off, just tell them you have just exhausted your power today, so maybe the next time. Usually, they would laugh and let you off.

Of course, there are those who might feel a bit violent after witnessing this effect... so just save enough energy to run as far as possible. :P

PS: I'm really not joking when I said I've used this.

Nice one. Maybe I should try it next time. I can imagine the "Sian diao" look of their face. You must be really dramatic as if reading their mind when you are doing this in order to have that effect.

Personally, I want to end as the "magic man". Even if you want to quit, quit it in style, leaving them asking for more. Why spoil your reputation by making yourself a clown? Just my personal opinion.

That's why I said "if it's in your character".

If you want to remain suave, cool and serious then don't... but if you have been portraying yourself as a fun and humourous guy, then it's consistent with your portrayal.

It won't matter how Axl does it.

He is TBMIS.

Don't expect to emulate him and get away with it. Nobody else can.
