if u think ur gd enough, dun give up this opportunity!
with regards to music:
Talking act: background music not v. impt as it shud be kept at a min.
Silent act:
1. Non-choreographed-to-music magic, the music not v. impt as shud be min. as well
2. Choreography-to-music magic, choose according to your presentation and effects
(eg. fast paced? slow and gentle? building up?)
I would think that a talking act with audience participation would be the most simple, direct and effective presentation style as starters. If u want a silent act, u shud choreography it to music as it makes your magic look more structured and impressive.
i dont really do stage, so thats abt all i can help.

tell us about the things.
like how long will it be?
wad ur teacher wants... u know.. do they want those simple simple trick. WAHAHA.
or those cool , stunning visual.... or wad..
tell us how long. hey i got a good excuse for ya, ask teacher or school to get u some cash. then use the cash buy tons of gimmicks and props... they can last a long time. wahaha then u also no need do anything.. gimmick gimmick.
but dun depend on gimmicks, i personally dun really use gimmicks...i love close up cards coins... impromptu style... haha
maybe like 15minutes of gimmick? then like er... 10minutes of close up ?

If you're not paid, don't ask them what they want. Do what you want. But if you'r not ready, I suggest not doing it. Just turn your teacher down by saying you're not ready, he can't do anything.
Its better to practise first than to fumble on stage. If there's some routine you feel comfortable doing, then go ahead and get some experience on stage. I believe there's plenty of chances to perform in school, expecially for free.

as for music, you really got to think what kind of mood are you going to create for the magic effect. Music can enhance the magical effect but it can ruin your whole routine too. Happy mood type of music should fit most type of stage magic. Another thing you should consider is that you should tell your audience jokes. If you can joke, don't even bother about music...
I guess it's not the right time for you to perform like what bernard(magicdow) said. Give yourself more time to perpare and I'm sure there's more chance for you to perform next time when you're ready.

Parlour at a funfair? Sounds a bit more of Close-up magic to me, but if your deal is parlour, then go ahead. One thing though, background music is NOT necessary. It's only necessary if you're doing a nice long effect like Grandfather Aces where there's no verbal presentation and the routine goes with the music. If your routine does not go with the music, I suggest not having any in the first place. Music might end up being more of a hinderance than an enhancement.
"Okay. Guys. Pick a card."
"Huh."
"Pick a card."
"Huh. Say again."
" <_< "
You get my point. Remember of course, as Jimmagic said, jokes and comedy in the presentation are very very important. Singaporeans are generally tough cookies. Entertain them and they will go with the flow of your effects abd be impressed. Don't challenge them.
"Do as I do"
"No."
If you have to, use humour!
"Do as I do , or you're a monkey"
"WAAHAHAHAHAHA"
Okay, not exactly, but you get my point.
What kind of effects are you performing? And for how long? Don't perform if you're not ready, and Justy, I always knew you were interested in magic, but never knew you had material. Someone's picking up pretty quick eh? :D
