Title: Rip Mr Geoff Latta
Description: We've Lost a GIANT in Magic

jeromefang - August 24, 2008 09:13 AM (GMT)
Hi Everyone,

On 20-Aug-2008, our Magic fraternity lost a Giant and his name is Mr Geoff Latta. The fellow was what was posted by Richard Kauffman:

"With a damn heavy heart I report that my friend Geoff Latta, known around the world as one of the finest close-up card and coin workers, died Tuesday morning at the age of 51 from the effects of alcoholism.

He leaves behind a lot of friends who wished they could have done more to help, but realize that sometimes it's impossible and things just have to play out in their own way.

He also leaves behind a 6 year old daughter, whom he described as the light of his life.

A memorial service will be held this coming Monday, August 25th, at the Greenwich Village (aka Crestwood) Funeral Home located at 199 Bleecker Street in New York City. The service will last from 7 pm to 9 pm. ALL are welcome. His mother would appreciate it if any and all magicians who knew Geoff, or simply admired his work, would come.

The website of the funeral home is here:

A little video tribute by Rannie Raymundo: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=k8Ace2Z6sCQ

Those who know his works would agree with me that he's an excellent thinker and technician and a true master of both Cards and Coins. Not many magicians can be labelled as a master of both fields but Mr Latta's is undoubtly ranked in the higest of excellence in both areas.

Many of his works very underground and I have to say that what he has contributed so far is absolutely phenomenal. The follow are a list of his published works:

Books
COINMAGIC by Richard Kaufman
The Collected Almanac by Richard Kaufman
Spectacle by Stephen Minch

DVDs
LVMI LIVE! 2003
COINvention Inaugural Collection
New York Coin Magic Seminar vol 1,2,3, and 4

I read on Genii that Stephen Minch is currently still in the works of completing Geoff's Complete Works Book. I'm sure it'll be a hit for many of us. I for sure will definitely buy a copy.

My deepest condolences to Mr Latta's friends and family. RIP Geoff, you'll always be remembered....

Cheers
Jerome

Geoff Latta has plenty of fine materials. If you are interested in coin magic, you should get Coin magic by Kaufmann, it contains many of Latta's materials. The books are so much better than the DVDs.

RIP Geoff Latta

Also you can find his materials in Bobo's Coin Magic.

May he rest in peace.
