my summary very lousy... cant really express the idea in that topic (cos need to be short) i meant wat if i watch demo videos from sites eg penguinM and found out how a gimmick works... but.. i dun hav that gimmick and still need to buy it.. isnt that a waste of money... i mean if u uncover a trick(impromtu), u know the methods and u can do it without buying it... but for gimmicks..still need to buy it at the cost as if u dun know how it works(that is if u know how it works already ... however, some gimmicked tricks especially card gimmicks.. u can jus buy the "specially printed cards" and save the cost of buying the entire trick which is more expensive.. same for those coin sh*** tricks...

Now, this is the main point(cos it concerns me, hehe)i think i know how scotch and soda thing works and in fact can apply the gimmick to self created tricks.. so do i need to buy the packaged one.. Or does anyone know is there supply of jus the gimmick coins..

sorry if u ppl dun understand wat im toking.. cos need to prevent exposure... hence need to use "gimmick" here and there... tell me, and i ll retype everything..

then make the gimmick yourself. haha ~

GordonLi - January 13, 2005 10:07 AM (GMT)
just buy it. for scotch and soda, its very troublesome to try and get it elsewhere.

for other effects, u ought to pay the originator for his ideas.

I know a source for Scotch and Soda. It comes without instructions and it's a lot more expensive.

Just buy the package S&C, all mass produced S&C's prices are about the same, comes with basic instructions. There's a separate booklet and video for other routines.

-make the gimmick urself
-go some shop and buy just the gimmick
-get from dealers
-hit ur own head, for discovering the gimmick
-dun even think of getting this, because the trick WAS FIGURED OUT
so why get it, if u feel others are gonna figure out like u did

u are equipped with magical knowledge that layppl do not possess. what u figure out, they might not.

with improved presentation and routining, creating motivation and reason within the effect, the secret can be better kept and the effect enhanced. thats the problem with many commercial tricks, just for marketting, not improved to perfection yet. usually just serves as eye candy for the buyer (esp with nowadays hype abt visual effects and "cool" tricks).

if i understand what u wrote
i would say
dont buy a trick for the sake of knowing the secret
if u think its a good gimmicked trick but u know how its done
buy it B)

correct. how many of us (me included) fall prey to the temptation of knowing how something is done, or just wanting to know it, but it lies somewhere in the cupboard (or even lost!) and we dont use it. waste of $.

and also, sometimes we dont like using tricks we found out the secret to, even if the effect is a killer for the audience, all because the method is too "simple".

My say on this is; if you already know how the effect is done, but REALLY REALLY like it, just go ahead and buy the gimmick! I've done this on a few occasions, and they've served me well... Ultimate 3 Card Monte, In a Flash, etc. It's waaaay better than buying a trick because you didn't know how it was done, only to discover some shitty handling. Flight 204 by Sean Fields was one of these... hoo boi.

u really know how it works?
u "figured" out?
or u download from a programme?
or a friend told u?
because i nv came across a case where anyone figured S&S on his own
-_-

GordonLi - January 23, 2005 12:36 PM (GMT)
that is just proof of how widespread or subtle exposure is...

tham - January 23, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
yeah. especially when people post videos of themselves up where their handling is still.. bleh. then can 'figure out' how things are done.

Rand - March 6, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
Hmm...just buy the cheapest if u wanna use it to perform loh or like ti.... if never use it and just going to try out to satify your curiosity, I would say it not worth it.....

GordonLi - March 7, 2005 05:32 AM (GMT)
if im gonna satisfy my curiosity, i will still buy it. but i'll get a cheap version if theres 0% chance of me performing it, then at least i will have more experience with various ideas, and can integrate this new idea to something else.

if im using it for performance, then i'll get a very good quality one (if not the best)...

Kekeke different perspective hehee :g:

poping - March 8, 2005 12:20 PM (GMT)
magicvideodepot have tons of vids sent by ppl.
some are good like twisting reset. blabla.

there are some lousy ones. those that had flashed the thing.
or the handling is stiff or whatever

I knew how S&S is done, but I spent $80 at I.F. (pretty reasonable price) to buy it.

Here are my reasons:

Because you'll need to have the gimmick to perform anyway.

I managed to find the gimmick made using local coins, which makes it even more convincing when performed here.

There are plenty of ways to fool around with this gimmick other than just doing your typical S&S. For example, Illusionist has tried using the S&S gimmick to do a penetration using a shot glass...VERY visual and perfect for performing to my club-hopping friends.

The gimmick is fully examinable before the effect and if you can do good shuttle p***** or subtle p**m***, you can even borrow the coins needed.

I only have one complain though...you'll need to use the darn bang ring to reset.

My take in this: Buy it if you can put it to good practical use. It sure isn't a gimmick that allows you to only perform one effect.
