Title: Card Magic Videos
grimace - September 18, 2004 10:18 PM (GMT)
Hello guys.
What would be some good card magic videos for a beginner?
yujie - September 19, 2004 02:15 AM (GMT)
easy to master card mircales vol 1-9 by michael ammar.
cyngapore - September 21, 2004 04:55 PM (GMT)
frankly speaking, i would not suggest easy to master card miracles by Micheal Ammar. Beginners should start from the basic. You should actaually get the card collage series or the card manipulations by Jean hugard. These books will aid you in ur magic. I highly recommend it as even professionals still refer to these books then they get stumped
Aloy - September 21, 2004 05:04 PM (GMT)
Becareful thou, Jean Hugard stuff are VERY VERY good and truly timeless. Now and then when i go thru his book again, I still find new stuff I can use. However, his book tend to be a little bit "wordy" and borders on old english. So patience is needed to read them.
Cheers

born to perform by oz pearlman?
it teaches quite a few basic yet important move n sleights..
Brendan - October 12, 2004 03:40 PM (GMT)
Hey... its funny none mentioned vids from ellusionist.com. I started with crash course 1 and 2. It teaches basics like mechanics grip, in jogging, break, DL etc etc.. crash 2 focuses on ACR. Its great... so many methods and variation. I guess, How to do street magic and inside magic is also great for beginners.
I also have Ammar easy to master card miricles but only vol 1-6. they are great, but i guess a real begineer should really learn the basics first.. no use jumping straight into more advance move. Oz pearlman BTP is also great actually :)

Err.. My view no offend people choose where they wan to buy their stuff and you seems to keep attacking ellusionist... People have different views in stuff they get and if they don't mine the price and feel its good is fine... Err not for to to tell everyone not to buy from here not to buy from there... We can on voice our views like the price is too pricey the material are not good and stuff but can't really say that some site is a con site and stuff.. they never hold a gun and force you to buy their stuff right.. this is my view in thing and hope I did not offend you..
exohordon - October 13, 2004 12:20 PM (GMT)
The reason why ppl buy from ellusionist is either they juz got into magic and google upon their site not knowing of better deals. Let's be honest, tenkai for 14US dollars. Would u not consider that as con? They call it a throw change or spin change. Its the same move. And they sell the trick separately?
C'mon ... I know of another magic forum that totally will not tolerate ellusionist.
Ellusionist tried to shut them down but were unsuccessful. Seriously, no other magic site can be worse than ellusionist.

exohordon,
we all understand what you're talking about. :D I've been there. Most of us have. But I think you've made your point clear enough. :D
(I'm assuming that point is, Ellusionist sucks, plain and simple. :P )
I would have to vote Magic Makers over Ellusionist though. :D
illusionist - October 13, 2004 12:29 PM (GMT)
To my point of view evey begginer start magic the hard way like getting expensive stuff and when they get more into magic they will know how to look for cheapper stuff.. If a begginer start to learn magic do they know wat is tenkai no and they just see everything that amaze them and wan to get it... We are more experience so we can say that they overprice use.. But all we can do is to advice begginers not trying to saying a site as a con site... I not sideing Ellusionist nor say that Ellusionist is good.. Bussiness is like that if you can get customer your plan work if not you fail is that simple.. No con and stuff they did not point a gun at your head and force you to buy so yu can't say its a con site.. is us who fall into the trap and we can't blame anyone hahhahaa.. That is my view no offend..

Your metaphor of a gun pointing to one's hand is like duh..... Who in the hell would do that nowsadays cept robbers and terrorists. The point is marketing strategy sux. I am juz warning ppl against them. To save fellow magician's money. Be it ur a noob or pro. Y waste money on a shop that doesn't do business the right way?
Dun u agree ppl would naturally boycott a lousy thing. For eg if service was poor at a restaurant people would juz go once and never go again. And naturally they would warn others of the place. Its the same wif E.CON. If u know they aren't doing the right things, dun buy from them. I think its wrong to say everyone beginner shld learn things the hard way and waste their money buying overprice and useless stuff which they can get anywhere else cheaper. Learn smart no learn hard. If u fall for their trap doesn't mean others shld too.

wah.... one word abt ellusionist and everyone got so many things to say abt it... hehe. well, i think all that matters is if a beginneer learns something from it and is happy with it... then, i think its worth it. maybe there are better deals out there but not everyone is being imformed. by the way, how do we get cheap DVDS?

When i first join magic, ellusionist and penguin seem so far away from me. It's an impossible stage to learn 2 card monte and ACR when i first got hooked onto magic.
Hehe ~
CLJ - October 16, 2004 01:09 PM (GMT)
Ellusionist was one of the sparking points for my magic. Hence now, even though I dislike their videos and their general attitude, I am grateful to them for providing me with a surface to start magic, from which I expanded deeper into magic. Period. :D Do a search on my posts in here and any forum I post in and you'll realise that I've not become a victim of their marketing and I don't intend to. :)
I'm still a firm believer that Magic Makers and Penguin (at least their forum boards) are far worse than Ellusionist is. ;)
BuaYa - October 16, 2004 02:46 PM (GMT)
I believe that Ellusionist deserves to have the current status (among the beginners). You know why? Cos they have a good marketing plan, and have a professionally done website that DOES sell. Just give me an example of ANY better advertised magic website with a better look/layout, and you've got me.
(BTW. I'm not pro ellusionist)
Winder - October 17, 2004 01:38 AM (GMT)
Their website look cool and great but maybe it's only their prices which make them have the E.con stuff ?
Pseudo - October 17, 2004 02:23 AM (GMT)
I find the E does well in teaching magic in the video. I've seen born to perform video and I find that E is way better.
Are there any other videos which also presents something like E does?
I'm very afraid to get videos whom the magician teaches for the sake of teaching. Like he doesn't explain clearly how to misdirect, angles and how to do it well but just mearly go through the sleight and that's it.
Mystical2004 - October 17, 2004 03:16 PM (GMT)
yea... i agree... brad really does teach well in his videos. he teaches the sleights first through and through, then concentrates on angles, if there are any. then if it is a major sleight, then he will concentrate on the misdirections and various variations. the onli problem is tt thir products are overpriced.
Brendan - October 21, 2004 04:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah... Ellusionist vids are my first set of vids i got... thus i cherish them v much. Brad is really a great teacher.... i dunno why some dont like him. but i think he is good :)
Born to perform vid is great too... Oz Pearlman... he is just awesome man... i like his style....

I too, stumbled onto ellu.com while doing my duty in camp coz i was so bored, and the website looked great, their product 'reviews' looked excellent, it did a very good job on marketing, that when I reached home in the morning, i imediately purchased 'Revolution' for download.
Then i realised, I paid so much, just for that trick which isn't that worth much.
Since then, I got hooked onto magic and was more careful buying stuff. Thanks to ellusionist! haha.
But I have to say, that Brad does do a good job on teaching. Its clear, direct and fully understandable. I have Ninja #1 and #2 too.

ok..ok..Elu is at the best in marketing it's trade. that's why some freak sold his trade at $12 buck at Yahoo auction!
benrio - November 1, 2004 03:01 PM (GMT)
I guess videos from Brad Christian are good...One of my first videos.
