Title: Bill Switch
Description: Any good recommendations?

Moondust - January 15, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
Hiya all. I need help...again :P

The classic effect of folding a bill into half, and then into quarters (and eighths sometimes), each time showing the hands empty...and upon unfolding it, changes to a bill of a different denomination.

Any good recommendations on sale for this effect? I'm hoping that I can do this without gaffed bills or TTs.

What do you people suggest?

Thanx for your attention. ;)

i cant think of any ungimmicked ones which are good.
and why not TTs?

Sean Fields has one called "C.R.E.A.M" that's quite visual (looks a bit like Sanders' Visi-bill), and it doesn't use a TT. It uses something else, though... so if you like it, burr. If you don't, bargh.

David Regal (I love this guy!) has a gaffless, gimmickless, fully-thought out routine called the Origami Bills. BUT it has to be done with Bill of the same color, so boohoohoohooohoo. Very good effect, though... me loves it mucho.

You can obtain instructions for Arthur Tivoli's bill switch directly from Arthur. (I think Tivoli's switch is great!)

Chosse's bill switch can be learned from Ron Bauer's little book "Bar Bill Stunt." (It is another switch that does not use a T-tip.)

You can learn Roger Klause's famous "100 dollar bill switch" from his manuscript of the same name. (Uses a T-tip)Also, Michael Ammar's old book "Encore III" includes complete instructions for Klause's switch.

Jay Sankey has a number of videos that explain a Klause-style bill switch using a T-tip.

Just for your info

Richard Sanders' Visi-bill is the way to go!!
Sean Field's raped Sanders' routine. They use the same method, and the use of a TT makes handling much easier in Sanders' routine. Plus there's a double bill switch included with the Visi-bill DVD that is just MINDBLOWING. Get Visi-bill, you won't regret it.

I believe Jay Scott Berry has something for that but doesn't use a TT. Have to use another gimmick though. Personally find it much easier to use than a TT.

Getting a TT to match the colour of the skin is one big headache. Plus, there's always the additional consideration of having to ditch the thing after the performance.

I know how to get it done with a TT. I've devised my own (dodgy...lol) handling which I performed in class about 17 years ago.

Not that TTs aren't effective, but I'm trying to learn new techniques that eliminates the use of it.

Not really a fan of Sean Field's work after I read the manuscript for his TnR routine "Fusion." While in certain ways similar to "Unripped," I feel that not enough thought has been put in his finalised effect. Maybe I'm just being biased, but I think I'll go check out David Regal's instead.

You mean Sanders' routine requires a TT? Does he include a handling that doesn't involve the TT? If so, I think I'll get that.

After getting Ray Cosby's Impossible Card Magic, I've got absolute confidence in your opinion on instructional material. THAT was good stuff!

Can't do Raise-rise

Any idea what's the name of that switch he uses?

It's not as simple as just applying the P****s and expect the effect to be good. Main movements are the core of an effect, yes. And many switches inculcate similar moves. My request for additional material is to make sure that I have enough knowledge to make these core moves work cohesively in order to constitute to a good effect.

I'll probably need this knowledge more than you because I haven't received any instruction at all whatsover pertaining to bill switches, that's why I need you people to forgive my ignorance.

Considering an ACR routine...when someone who's a newbie in this field wants more material to study this routine comprehensively, telling him just to use DLs and Tilts isn't enough.

Hope you can understand this problem I'm facing.

I still believe that Visi-Bill is the way to go.
The gimmick Jay Scott Berry uses is the same one for Sean Field's Cream. That gimmick really restricts your movement. I'm sure you don't want your fingers all cramped up during a billswitch.

Moondust, a TT is one of the most deceptive gimmicks ever. As long as you don't do the cliche "Vanishing Hanky", nobody will EVER suspect it. I've tested it myself by wearing it for the whole day in school and even shaking my friends hands with it. Nobody noticed or suspected a thing. It's like doing a Fa*s* Tr**sfe* in coin magic. If you don't 'believe' what you're doing, it just won't work for you, and you'll never look natural enough. Trust the TT.

Bill Malone's On The Loose Volume 1 also teaches a great billswitch for his Bill To Lemon routine! Very very good material.

Thanx again Huron. I think I'm gonna look for a Vernet TT or ask Cynwell to recommend one for me. Haven't touched one of those for ages.

I'll go check out the gimmicked and ungimmicked variants of this effect. I guess certain aspects of magic's like this: what's available in the market is source material for you to create and adapt to your own handling.

You've been a great help. I think I've gotten all the sources I require (or can afford! ) from yourself and all the members in this thread. Thank you all for your advice! :)
