I went to check out the Fantasma at Toys R Us a few days ago, and man, the "duty" magician was kept really busy, and the products are really going quick. :)

I bought a pack myself, an escape handcuff and the trick box that wouldn't open trick and i noticed something glaringly missing.
There wasn't any "Magician's Code" anywhere on the packaging, or the instructions (and it was very good instructions, giving multiple presentation ideas for each effect and suggestions about how they can be combined with other tricks) or the company info or the reciept. What happend to

1) Never reveal your secrets
2) Practise
3) Practise somemore

(or any other form of it?)

While the effectiveness of such a message can be argued, but it sure beats not having it at all?
Most magic books targeted at an younger audience has these "Magician's Code" in some form or another, those magic sets that has been sold since forever has it, even Gician's products has it written clearly on every instruction.

Surely Fantasma being the only product that has been endorsed by the IBM should have it in their instructions? After all you are promoting an interest in the art, and not selling the secrets. I would imagine being properly informed and taught the importance of the code to be a very crutial part of any magic education, no matter how brief.

Your comments sir?

ReDeFiNe - December 17, 2004 05:10 AM (GMT)
OK thats something I did not notice..I will feedback on that to my boss..yes its right that the magicians code should be explained on the instructions...hmm..let me look into this..but we do have a Fantasma Full time magician and all of these lines he will say it to the buyers i guess...Thanks for the wonderful feedback!

Best,
Jeremy

Aloy - December 18, 2004 06:41 AM (GMT)
I'm quite sure the magician CANNOT possibly tell all buyers that because he is demostrating, not selling it. And I dun remember him mentioning anything to quite a number of people who were picking up many sets and cards on the day that I was there. Even if he is, it is not passable for him to be telling everyone that picks up a box abt magician's code and what it means wouldn't you agree.
And most of it are parents and uncles buying it as a present anyways.

But ok, i understand that you got it, and i'm sure you will do something about it . B)
Because as you said, for you this is not just about making money and selling toys, it's about promoting magic as well isn't it. :)

kryptikalism - December 18, 2004 03:45 PM (GMT)
i'd recommend the cups and balls set guys. it's really great. and for only ten dollars, it's really a good buy. you get three silver, compact and portable cups, red cotton balls and a plastic wand. the cups alone are worth it i think.

thanks for reading.

Ning - December 20, 2004 02:09 AM (GMT)
Right, which branch had it? Was @ toys R US (Forum Branch) over the weekend but didn't see that one (xcept in the $99.95 set which everyone knows Winder's got his eyeball on...LOL) But surely, things are flying off the shelves at a very very fast rate!!!

ReDeFiNe - December 20, 2004 02:30 AM (GMT)
the individual cups and balls sets are sold out whole of Singapore! yup...its in the big set too ... :)

zinally - December 24, 2004 08:48 AM (GMT)
Matter of opinion only..Although the upgrade version of fantasma magic above $20 is quite good but the lower end product is still lack of variety. Most of the type sold there is about the same as the other product availabe by other supplier like Chu's Magic, China Magic and others. My suggestion the marketing people shpould check the market segment and try to bring more new stuff that are not sold elsewhere Example the tapered, miracle & marked deck even has been sold in pasar malam for $4/deck. The hunted hanky, the suspension bottle, the penetration effect has been sold has kid toys from china for quite sometime. If u want your product to success u should think of the best product and the best offer to the masses. B) B)

Coke - December 29, 2004 04:30 AM (GMT)
is fantasma stuff good? TM has toys r us.

are they filled with gimmicks? because i personally dislike some. except for ciggare thru coin, coin bite... those real good ones..

do they sell invis deck?

while reading those mark and tapered deck and stuff... i actually found them pretty useless.. *no offence! :D * because once people see the design..

ppl gonna chant "wah! using gimmicked deck seh!!!!"

erm... are there good stuff there? because i cant really find a catalog..
except for fantasmamagic.com ...

but that is international.. and the price is not singapore..

blehx.. can redefine or someone tell me about the items.

Ning - December 29, 2004 04:44 AM (GMT)
Hi Coke, you're asking a really subjective question here... Redefine has already written much about Fantasma products, so maybe you can check those threads out for details.

Meanwhile, I'll have to disagree with you that "most gimmick are useless". It really depends on their uses- anyone can purchase any magic prop- but it's how they use it to create that special atmosphere and experience for the audience that makes magic truly magical.

FYI, Bicycle also produces special gaffed cards. Places like NTUC & Popular bookshop in SG sell Bike cards rather commonly now. Get my drift? ;)

Good luck with your research.

illusionist - December 29, 2004 04:56 AM (GMT)
Just to add on lol... Those fantasma magic item are for kids to learn the art of magic.. I found it really cool you know.. I got one of the cups and ball set for my niece cos she is learning magic form me.. and she like it and I found it really nice the cups and ball set.. About decks.. hmm.. not eveyone will say that you using gimmick deck.. If they do as a magician you have to find ways to proof them wrong lol.. Ask Pesodu wat he did when people say that lol.. Fantasma have some really good stuff for beiginners and yeah they instruction in there is really easy to unterstand.. :D

ReDeFiNe - December 29, 2004 04:59 AM (GMT)
Hi Coke,

Fantasma is currently the top range of magic toys distributed around the world..most of the items are of top quality namely the cards deck, individual boxes like Pen-o-tration, ring scape, cups and balls, aladdin hanky plus more.

Umm with regards to the idea of bring out a deck and people saying gimmick...umm i guess its how you perform it...bringing a cartoon deck maybe seem extremely gimmick but yet a nice routine can be pull out of it...

And exactly , if we are selling bicycle gimmick decks on the shelves at Toys R Us...and at that price...the Magic Shops in Singapore will start to go after me..hahaha..

Oh BTW, the prices in Toys R Us is so much cheaper than the retail US price...eg. Cups and Balls at 12 USD is only 9.90SGP on the shelve...

Hope these info helps...

Best,
Jeremy Pei

ReDeFiNe - December 29, 2004 07:14 AM (GMT)
Hmm...have you check out the site with the complete range of products..? the only reason that Singapore only has those that are on shelves now is the the rest are ALL SOLD OUT! in the whole world... example their Delux Magic Sets that comes in a nice silver brief case.. the US Office Warehouse are out of these cases..all sets has been out ...plus if you look at the other interesting set like (Stage MAgic Set) (MAgic Theater Set) ,these are newer sets...they have really interesting packaging and stuff....

With regards to the standard stuff...like the cups and balls..usually u purchase one cups and balls with 3 cups and 4 balls in a set..but Fantasma one comes with a rising wand too...The Haunted Hanky comes with the genie bottle to create more magical routines...I think the individual boxes has a nice combination of routines with that one prop...

Classic Dice bomb just perform one effect..Fantasma's Dice Cloning can perform 10 routines..

After all its MAGIC TOYS...would not expect to see a zig zag gal on the shelve ya...

Coke - January 3, 2005 08:36 AM (GMT)

illusionist - January 5, 2005 03:58 AM (GMT)
Coke I do recoomend the 100 dollars magic set lol.. Y cos you will have eveything in it.. and the DVD in site will worth the price already.. and is quite cheap actually hahha.. I wanted to get it but some how someone make it sold out in TM hahhahaha... :D So if you can get that really.. that my 2 cents of couse hahhaha.. :D there are still many others just pop down to TM Toy R Us to take a look :D

Ning - January 5, 2005 04:40 AM (GMT)
Speaking of which... I was @ the Toys R US Forum branch the other day & noticed that there was only ONE $99.95 Legends set left on the shelves. Better grab it fast ;)

ReDeFiNe - January 5, 2005 07:18 AM (GMT)
yeah there is one set left at Forum and I believe in United Square left about 3 set when I was there doing the Fantasma MAgic Show bout a month ago..Jurong Pt also has bout 2 sets left the last week of December...Dun think they kept any stock in the warehouse...certainly more stocks are coming...

Just a note, the top hat set has a really nice cloth folding spring top hat, the idea for the top hat is Fantasma's Original. And a tip , after this run sell out, they will be making a new top hat set and the top hat would be a plastic non folding one already. So this Cloth Folding Spring one will become a collector edition..Its certainly one set worth collecting. The Hat is worth the price of the set for $25.95

There will also be a new so call "Legends of Magic" style set coming up. Forgot the title , but the big trick will be something like a mirror production box, plus it will have more other stuff ...

illusionist - January 5, 2005 07:42 AM (GMT)
All I can say is all the set in tampines is sold out lol only left those sperate one hanging on the shelfs they are going fast lol.. Coke if you rally wan to get it do get it fast lol.. the set is the best buy.. :D
