Oh wow....was I too aggressive in my comments or are you a sensitive new age guy?
Honestly with you, I thought that your comments in the papers was an opportunity you took at, for lack of a better word, "putting down" the new generation of blaine-inspired magicians who relies heavily on the latest gimmick in magic products from marketting aggressive magic sellers. In many ways, i agree with you on that.
BUT....you are doing the same thing selling out. You are dissing the same people you are targetting with your fantasma products. so DUH
Btw, excuse moi, but what do you mean "I am just disappointed with anybody writing anything against me in anyway"? Wow....you are so "untouchable" that nobody is allowed to write anything against you? I want to laugh |
I am starting to find the last sentence more and more rude...jus for u only BlueRabbit....go and find out who i am. ;)

i've seen your website so i know your list of awards and accomplishments. Very impressive indeed....
...but so what? B)
Does it mean that because you all these awards you are "untouchable"?
I can comment whatever I want, and I don't think I've made any unfair comments thus far. I didn't mean anything as a personal attack and I welcome you to defend yourself.
You DID say that "magic is too easily available" and you ARE selling magic products in Toys R Us. Did I get any part wrong? If you can explain anything that I've misunderstood I'd GLADLY apologise.
But you just scoff and wave your list of awards and say you are too busy to entertain nobodies like me. Who's the smaller man now?

I like discussions, and i like debates, because i believe "iron sharpens iron" B)
But just a reminder to be cordial and polite :)

Yea ... Relax Guys ... Why not just forget about all this unhappy stuff, anyway most people who bought the set must be interested in magic or not why would they get it. Some set like the $99 isn't cheap, but i love it. I have no $$$ :(

The contradiction of Jeremy's statement is true. So is the fact that he is an authority figure of sorts in this genre, so some respect must be given. I'd like to see him justify that contradiction, but at the same time I'm not questioning his authority. Maybe that is how you also intended it, Bluerabbit?
Fighting on online forums doesn't do jack shit. I've seen it so many times, and the end result is always the same: both sides lose, nothing is gained.
If you can't help yerselves, just take it over
here. Seems like a lot of stuff like this goes on over there.
Don't tell me a 16 year old punk is more sensible than you guys! Jeez.

I second this statement above and i think there is nothing wrong..I did say magic is easily available..one reason is because i am selling Fantasma at Toys R Us.And hence it is easily available...many more people can learn magic..
Har..i dun get wat u mean...did u like think twice before u type.think like a 24 can...

I think we can stop all these debates. I feel that this is like a rocking chair, gives you something to do but gets you nowhere.
Each of you have your own points and nobody is right or wrong. Let's get on. B)

Yah, to have peace, both have to compromise abit. Just tone down your language and everything will be fine. ;)
Cool down B) .

Fellas,
cool it. This thread goes back to the article where the only quotes (only, hah) from Jeremy are "'flashy card stuff'" and "'street magic'". Nothing else deserves to be attributed to him.
Sorry I'm writing about this again, but there's still talk about this, and it's wrong to bad-mouth, especially when it's undeserved.
These two quotes are certainly correct, where magic in Singapore is concerned. Nothing wrong there.
Now for the itchy bit. I quote: "Jeremy Pei, 20, a national serviceman and a magician, thinks this has made learning magic too easy, and that in turn has made magic flashier, but less convincing."
Now, everyone knows Jeremy's doing Fantasma. Please people, how on earth does that occupation contradict his statement?
Back to his statement. All that's stated is that learning magic is too easy (any challenges?), and magic is flashier but less convincing (again, any challenges?)
OK. Elaboration time.
1. Magic is easy to learn, and much much easier than before. Everyone knows this. Why else are we here?
2. Statement (1) is linked to the "less convincing" statement in that simple tricks do not wow people anymore now that many more tricks have their secrets as public knowledge.
These are statements. Facts. Scientifically correct facts! No opinions here. He's not dissing anyone. If anything at all, he is just commenting on the social phenomenon that magic is all over the planet, but he's not dissing anybody at all. At all.
Heavens, people, cut him some slack. He's clean and certainly doesn't deserve this ruckus.
Alright. ALL this is based on a giant assumption. Please, do NOT associate any emotion with his statements. Jeremy is not LAMENTING the facts he stated, nor is he APPLAUDING them. We don't know his private thoughts. Lament or applaud, these opinions are NOT published. Therefore, don't go make giant assumptions, people.
And hey, therefore, if you don't know how he truly feels about the popularisation of magic, how on earth can you even think that he's contradicting himself? Tell me, can't he provide the magic learning to the masses and say that it's easy as well? Where's the devil in that? The chap can surely be the Fantasma agent as well as educator to the masses as well as a pro. Show the contradiction.
We are all friends in this forum. We don't need a foolhardy fight with fire. This incident is not to be forgotten, since we are riding on a powerful wave of publicity. I don't even suppose Jeremy is even wrong.
In the first place, I believe everyone here to be responsible for the spreading of the magic bug to our friends- whom we have introduced the circle to. That said, Fantasma MUST also have done its part, directly or not, to bring people in the SMC.
Be glad for the work that everyone (Jeremy included) here has done to keep magic alive.
chill, people,
peace,
iam

bluerabbit sound kinda rude to me... age is not important but you really sound like a young kid. You're trying to give a bad impression to everyone. Debate is a good thing but personal attack just make ppl annoying
ReDeFiNe - January 18, 2005 05:42 PM (GMT)
Really appreciate KH for typing such a long essay..honestly i dun really understand the whole thing...
You know sometimes stuff that comes out in press can be quite misunderstood and we can't help it cause its how the reporter wanted to write the story...I have been quoted before in the papers of stuff that i not really say...
Just for KH, he asked me if i was pisses with the thread against me and say he will explaine from his part of the story, which i appreciate in some way...But i will be pissed anw when i read the article...Did't I SPECIFICALLY told ya not to say I am serving AMRY!!!hahahah...i have my reasons for that...and you wrote i am in the army...haiz....
BTW, I am a person with good temper and good understanding..but just do not wish people to get on my nerves..which can be quite hard actually...
Honestly...my reason for participating in this forum is really to give back to the magic society what i have received in the past..I certainly hope to see the next Asia Champion which is someone whom i knew here and also may take magic to a new level in future...I HATE POLITICES!!!! Thats the worst thing in anywhere...
But unavoidable...
I am fine with the way any one thinks of me..be in bad or good..but i certainly hope its good..cause i will certainly need your help one day in the future in some way or another..
In the mean time...I request for the topic..this one..which began with me again..to close ...(Cause i can't shut it down myself) ..Guys u can just continue to debate bout the issue of watever i said in the press...but maybe few years down the road when you look at the thread..you will think that its quite silly...
And ya Mr Bunny..i am a very busy person..havin to entertain you does take up quite a bit of my time .its serious effort..i dun think i am the smaller person..
I feel no magician is fit to judge a fellow magician..cause you can never judge unless you are the best..of which ...noboday dare claim to be the best..so..pls dun judge..or like christians say "Don't judge or else you will be judged" ..haha..hope u live u to your real name..;)
BlueRabbit - January 19, 2005 07:28 AM (GMT)
Woooh! Nobody likes me! :P I didn't know I created a mini controversy....
And not fair, why the thread locking? Had to go grove up to Morphine to open this up for me. But I did promise only to post to clear up the air and not to write vengeful posts and call people names. :) So here I go....
Firstly, it was never my intention to "stir up the waters" so as to speak. What I did was plainly to state an observation and tried to seek clarification from the parties involved. I admit, i could have used more gentle and subtle languages, but Mr Bunny, as some of you so affectionately calls me, is not one who bothers with prettying it up. I may have appeared rude to some, and for that I apologise, but I see it as simply "calling a duck a duck" and saying it for what it is. :)
Mr Bunny don't do tai chi -_- but yes, I will try to be more "cordial" as Mr Morphine put it.
Next, to clear up a few things...
...and the most laughable of all, the AGE thing
I only stated my age because Mr Pei bought it up saying, and i quote, "even more disappointed with u...if you are a young person..i strongly encourage u to stay more humble for ur years to come in the magic world..."
I don't see the reason for the age reference but I was worried that Mr Pei is the type that thinks that a person need to be of a certain age before what they say can be taken seriously so i complied. ^_^ I didn't mean that what i say carries weight according to my age. Sorry if I made anyone felt that way :)
For flaming. First my unreserved apologies to the people dragged/lured into it, I'm sorry. It was never my intention to "flame", i just stated an observation and wished for clarifications. Having said that, I would like to point out that none of my previous posts contains any personal attacks like insinuating that someone is immature or that they are inferior in some ways or resort to name-calling.
I did not meant to make any personal attacks. But i can't help it if it is choosen to be taken that way.
Mr Bunnies says what he sees and thinks and he will not mince his words for anyone. :)
NOW, for the statements/issues. I hate to feel like a theology scholar but....
"Jeremy Pei...thinks this has made learning magic too easy, and that in turn has made magic flashier, but less convincing. He said that many youths today perform only "flashy card stuff" and "street magic"."
I dunno, maybe my england very no powder, but i cannot help but feel negative undertones in that? "TOO easy"? "flashy"? "less convincing"?
Reading that, I cannot help but sense a little of his disdain for new magicians who because they found a site that teaches them IT and levitation or they bought an invisible deck and think they have arrived. I AGREE with that.
The irony to me is that Mr Pei also is an advocator of magic products should be freely available to everybody in toy shops because that's the noble cause of spreading magic.
The good/bad, right/wrong of "magic for everyone" that has been beaten to death and i sincerely don't wish to revive it.
I just felt the irony (from my understanding) interesting, maybe even comical so i shared it.
I do appriciate that Mr Pei finally found time to clear up what he meant...

That was easier than "go find out who I am" isn't it? :)
Honestly personally, i think that's a Bill Clinton's I-smoked-but-I-never-inhaled effect but that's just my personal opinion (Mr Bunnies dun mince his words, sorry).
I might be wrong. :)
Anways, now that it's all out there, everyone can see and decide for themselves anyways and this thread can be finally over.
Let me end by saying I'm sincerely sorry if I cause this forum unnecessary distress because I really like this place. Please don't hate me but I probably wouldn't change either. And I would like to say no matter what is said of me from here on, I would't reply/retaliate anymore.
I meant no harm. I come in peace. Heal the world. Hug a tree. Be kind to little children and animals. Live long and prosper. Sorry. Please. Thank you. Excuse me. You win. Love. Joy. Music. Laughter. Amen.
Peace :) :) :) :) :) :)

You know, when I read that statement in the papers, by heart felt a bit a "twang"... I was hurt by the apparent "looking down upon" of the new-school. Sure, there are a lot of people who don't understand the true dedication that magic requires, and go out and "rape" tricks with bad presentation and handling. But the new school is not the boob school... a square is a rectangle is not always a square. People like Huron are clear evidence of this... one of the few magicians nowadays that do good to the name of new-age magic.
But then again, it was just an article, so if any misinterpretation of the apparent stereotype occured, it was Kiat Han's fault! Grr... :P
But seriously, I WAS offended by the comment on "flashy card magic" especially. Anyone can do flashy card magic. Very few can do it WELL.

Ladies, Gentlemen,
You know, it's really highly annoying that a piece of good news, and one that was intended (least of all by myself), can become a long messy thread.
Yo Kev! Your post shows that you agree with Jeremy's comment! He simply said that "many youths today perform only 'flashy card stuff' and 'street magic'. " Just as I mentioned before, pleasepleaseplease DO NOT associate any emotion from him with that statement!
And yeah, you agreed here, brother, by saying what you did, in "Anyone can do flashy card magic." Still offended? Like I said in my last post on this thread, all of Jeremy's statements are simply, facts. Peace, people.
Jeremy- as spoken, the press had to have your current occupation.
Kevin- I honestly hope that smiley and your post indicates a happy comment made in jest about me. And, for the record, the journalism was responsible. And there you go, you're right Kev, it's "just an article".
BlueRabbit- We're all friends here. Don't take anything too hard, and don't come across too hard on anyone.
JimMagic- thank you for standing on the side of reason.
PEOPLES! Nobody mentioned my post in this line of debate. I gave substantial evidence that nothing Jeremy did should and can be held against him. There is NO LOOKING-DOWN on anybody at all! Should anyone persist in the assault, please for heaven's sake, address my post, or you're just a really bad sportsman. Not one of us will tolerate childish behaviour.
Handshakes all around, people, and we carry on walking together. I move for this ridiculous case to be dismissed. DISMISSED!
peace,
iamthewalrus

Thank you Morphine! Right, I figured Kevin was kidding, alright! You're OK, Kev!
And I honestly disagree with the caveat you put up, yeah, if anyone thinks I've got stupid posts or I come across as a clown, tell me, in whatever appropriate way you deem fit. Whatever! Ok, case closed ^_^ Everyone's entitled to their own opions/ beliefs/ etc/ etc but we all still need to live in harmony in this multi-faceted magic forum!
It was a rather interesting debate anyways... Now enjoy your well-deserved long weekend!
