Dimsumdemon In Safra, all about me...

This is just something i wanna share with everyone, its just my own event...so ...i dunno posting here is approperaite.

Well well...the big event is finally over and...I dunno what to say of the experience. I tried to create joke but fail. The ...i think 500++ peeps where quiet throughout whatever i did. And...seriously..i think i fail badly while i was on the stage. But i kept on.

After the whole thing, when i came down and some of my friends talk to me...i really wanted to ask them, "why no response one ar?" but i didn't . I was afraid my tricks were...i dunno...i dun wanna think of the negative side.

Then came a few of them, who talk to me and said its just like a trick, like that lor...so really...i think i wasn't entertaining enough. Its not about the skills. Its actually about the style, which i haven had my own. So i am still searching...I hope some of you have found it, but i think performing card tricks in a huge,[ yeah if 500 isn't , i dunno what is, its my first time.] crowd is like...HARD? i dunno. ANY takers wanna comment on this?

My pervious stuff which i did on 30 people, everybody surrounding me...i was real nervous, to the feet, but excited, cause the people were really there and they were close and wanted to expose me. That was much better...much much better...the crowd was screaming and stuff...

i havent got a chance to perform in front of this many pple yet, but i believe it's common to have this experience.
just continue to improve on. i always enjoyed the moments when my audiences are stunned, jaw-dropped, but lotsof time this wont happened. just get thru it n move on.
the next one will be better.

DSD at least u got the b***s to go upstage perform lah... the only way from there is up... me i doubt i have the courage to do wat u did.

I think card tricks are very dificult to do for an audience as large as that. Unless you get special giant prop cards or card manipulations ala McBride style. Or perhapes some mentalist routine? Or else it is really difficult for the audience to keep track of what's going on in your hands or on the table on stage.
Chinese linking rings is one classic that's very suitable for stage, but i suspect all layman are sick of seeing it already. I feel, unless you have a good metalist routine, props (not just gimmicks) are inevitable for stage performances.

But yeah, take heart man, it's no biggie. I know I've failed more times than i care to remember in various situations. And it's a 500 strong audience too, that's great performing experience for you. I know I would freak out totally if i were to do it. So great job for going thru with it yah?

Linking rings is good hahahahaha your friend was amaze when cuywell did the linking rings hahahahaha... yep stage you have to have grand props for cards like card castle and stuff... <_< and you are one lucky guy to get this kind of experience man hahahaha.. think of the bright side..

Actually, to tell the truth the only thing that you can gain out of this is probably my balls getting bigger each time, and i realise something, the people who claps are those that are in the front tables, Ie. my brigade commander and CO...the were smiling, thats a few stuff i look out for.

So really, my exp to share is, if you gonna do things to hit it hard, its either you hav good showmanship, and i guess i didn't right there. Its too hard in such a huge crowd and really, their so far away from me, i can't grab those behind.

So to end of my little exp, its really about how confident you are when you perform and how different your showmanship is. Going direct into the trick is something which i didn't do but, i didnt came up with a good pre-scipt also.

ALAS, i still prefer to work in smaller groups of audience and get close to them.

I always believe that card tricks fall under close-up magic so it is very difficult to perform to big audience unless u do a proper setting. Example create your own space for the tricks - 1 table with 4-5 people to watch your tricks, but being broadcast to a larger image to the bigger audience. U have to script your patter and routine to the 5 person. It must be interesting so that the masses will appreciate it thru the projector.However,for bigger audience it is wise to do stage props or illussion if u do not have props u can do mental tricks with audience participant or physical kind of tricks like rope tricks, vanishing items such as coins, ring but elaborately done. Your vocal projection and your elaborate body movement is most important. U have to run everycorner of the stage to create sense of mystery and excitement! Anyway salute to u for your effort! Keep it up! My favourite is bill in lemon tricks where I burn $10 of audience money but before that write the s/no of the bill. After that ask the audience to pick any lemon out of 4 lemon. The bill with the correct s/no will be in the lemon after cutting it but I create certain comical patter on the routine such like I forget how the tricks done cos the SIFU has died before I know the secret.

Well... Did you use any stoogs? If i were you i'd make half of all my tricks stooge based :P I'm that evil i guess... Hmmm. How about mentalism? Did it work out well? It may be a good idea to try that out...

frankly speaking DSD i think its not the style, its ur character. People always remember a character than how entertaining the show is, thorough my experiences, i learnt that character is more important than you style, kets take bugs bunny for example, if i say bugs bunny , what is the first thing that u think of him? he's funny, he chews on carrots and say wats up doc? or hes just a rabbit?
definitely not the latter.

heres what i suggest
Come up with a stage character or performing character and then style, make them remember you... entertaining them would be second to the character.
Once i had this stage show that i have to do in school and i only have 2 weeks to prepare, i just came up with a card in mouth "gay act" and everybody enjoyed it really much, i did it like last year, until now ppl in my school would remember me becoz of that. I also get tease about me being a gay and stuff like that but i dun mind cause i have left them an impression of me and have entertained them, which is the most important thing

To improvise on cynwell advice, as he mentioned.
People don't see how well u performed at sleights, but rather how entertaining u r...u cld be making jokes for the whole night, and oni performing 2-3 tricks and they'll still be entertained..
i wld prefered them be entertained than amazed, somehow, there's a line of diff between these 2...


(But, for a grp of 500 ppl, im sure i wld shrugged too..haha..)

If 20 or 30 people maybe card/coins and table stuff would do, but 500 is wow~ nice one ~ great experience.
